A Playful Chill: Creating a "Frosty" Experience in the Heart of Bratislava
The design concept centers around evoking the sensation of stepping into a refrigerated space, immersing visitors in a uniquely "frosty" atmosphere. This paradoxical effect is achieved through the application of sprayed insulation, which not only serves its functional purpose but also plays a key role in shaping the spatial narrative.
Set within the historic center of Bratislava, the design embraces the character of its vaulted ceiling, using its outlined form to connect the modern intervention with its architectural heritage. This juxtaposition is softened by whimsical, childlike elements, such as the smiling lamp faces created by artist Tero Abaffy, adding a touch of humor and approachability to the space.
The choice of color further enhances the thematic intent. Inspired by the chaotic yet nostalgic imagery of melting ice cream—dripping hands and dropped cones—the palette reflects the idea of "messiness" associated with those moments. This deliberate reference to imperfection and play creates a dynamic contrast with the clean, minimalist elements of the design.
The result is a thoughtful blend of historic architecture, contemporary materials, and playful artistic touches, offering a space that feels both immersive and lighthearted—a reinterpretation of a frosty atmosphere with a human touch.
