About the project

A Heart in the Darkness / festival installation

In a time of uncertainty and darkness, a lighthouse guides us on the right path, offering a light of hope in the void. It symbolizes solidarity and the sharing of space among a group of people expressing empathy toward one another. The heart, in this context, represents not only love but also understanding, compassion, solidarity, affection, willingness, and the source of energy that unites us all.

Why the human heart? This symbol serves as a reminder of solidarity while also acting as a statement against racism. Despite our differences—whether in skin color, religion, sexual orientation, or cultural background—we all carry the same heart within us. It speaks to the common humanity that binds us together in a shared experience.

The installation embodies this heart, acting as the beating center of a larger organism—a community of 30,000 individuals. By merging the concept of the lighthouse with the core idea of love, a suspended light installation of the human heart is created. Throughout the duration of the event, the heart continuously pulses, symbolizing love, solidarity, and the collective message it represents.

As the final sunrise marks the end of the event, the heartbeat fades away, only to renew itself a year later at the next GRAPE festival. This installation stands as a lasting symbol of the enduring message of unity, compassion, and togetherness that transcends time.
