About the project

The main concept of the design was to bring a fragment of Italian aesthetics into the interior—not as a literal reference, but as an atmosphere. The conceptual approach is based on turning the spatial logic inside out: the interior transforms into an exterior, into an imagined Italian balcony or terrace, evoking the experience of sitting in the narrow streets of historic cities where public and private realms naturally overlap.

The space was stripped of unnecessary layers and remnants of previous uses. By exposing the original structures and brickwork, a raw and authentic foundation was revealed, becoming a defining element of the interior. The expressed materiality does not function as decoration, but as the memory of the place—a quiet counterpoint to the lightness of the new interventions.

The sensation of sitting on a terrace is reinforced by awnings positioned within the window openings. Composed of six slender stainless-steel rods, they visually lighten the space and introduce a subtle sense of playfulness. Their rhythm works with light and shadow in a manner reminiscent of exterior environments, further blurring the boundary between inside and outside.

The atmosphere is completed by garden light garlands, filling the interior with soft, diffused light. The space thus ceases to be a purely interior environment and becomes an urban terrace—a place for gathering, relaxation, and everyday informal intimacy.
